World Cup stories: Who has won the Golden Boot at previous tournaments?

Aside from the World Cup trophy itself, the Golden Boot is arguably the highest honour a player can achieve at FIFA's quadrennial tournament.
Some of the all-time greats of the sport have etched their names in the history books by taking over a World Cup and scoring the most goals of any player, including Eusebio, Gerd Müller, Ronaldo and Gary Lineker.
Previously known as the Golden Shoe or simply as the top goalscorer, the name Golden Boot was formally used for the award from 2010 onward.

Tiebreakers were instituted in 1994, from which point the player with the most assists would claim the top spot. In 2006, another tiebreaker was added: Should players be tied on goals and assists, the player with the fewest total minutes played at the tournament would be ranked highest.
