England star reveals Kane's inspiring message after dramatic World Cup comeback

Having been stunned by Brian Cipenga’s seventh-minute strike, the Three Lions failed to find a way past inspired keeper Lionel Mpasi until Kane struck twice in the last 15 minutes.

In the immediate aftermath of the dramatic round-of-32 clash, Kane called the squad together for a post-match huddle before they joined the England faithful to celebrate with a rendition of the Oasis classic Wonderwall.

And Anthony Gordon, who provided both assists after climbing off the bench in the second half, revealed the main thrust of what the captain told them.

The Barcelona recruit, 25, said: “He was saying that this win doesn’t define us, it doesn’t win us the tournament but enjoy it like any other nation.

“Sometimes the bigger nations have a tendency not to celebrate properly because they want to go further and they have high expectations — but that shouldn’t be the case.

“It’s a win in the World Cup against a tough team and now we’re in the round of 16.”

Kane added: “I told the boys to enjoy it. Sometimes as an England player, games you're expected to win, you don't celebrate as you should.

“We're the same as every other nation, we're through, but enjoy it, we're at the World Cup.

“We're fighting for every moment and little margin. I want the boys to enjoy it, enjoy the moment with the fans and we go again in four days.”

Gordon set up Kane’s goals after being thrust into action on the hour mark. His inviting cross was headed home by the skipper for the equaliser, before some smart footwork teed up the winner.

The former Newcastle star said: “It’s all about H, isn’t it? Without him, I probably don’t make those decisions. 

“For the cross, I probably would have shot normally. But as soon as I touched it I could just see him in there and I thought put it in the area. He does the rest for both goals.”

As England’s all-time leading scorer, Kane has now netted 84 goals for his country.

And the Bayern Munich striker, 32, insists he always believed England would find a way to keep their World Cup dream alive.

He said: “It was a crazy game. The keeper made some unbelievable saves in the first half.

“It was just about pounding the rock. Keep pounding the rock. Our moment would come.

"You have to stay patient in these games. From an attacking point of view, it was probably our best game of the tournament so far.

"Ultimately, these rounds are just about getting through. I think the boss spoke about it before the game.

“We are in the part of the tournament where you have to grind games out.”

After last night’s late drama, England fans will hope for a less nerve-racking experience when the Three Lions tackle Mexico in the last 16.
