Curacao make history despite Germany scoring seven

Curacao may have won the hearts of football fans across the world despite being thrashed 7-1 by Germany. 

Conceding in the sixth minute, it looked like a long night was in store for Curacao, but they equalised 15 minutes later when a deflected Livano Comenencia shot found its way past Manuel Neuer. 

For Curacao, they will not care about what happens next, they have already made history by scoring their first-ever World Cup goal, and doing it against serial winners Germany makes it all the sweeter. 

Germany went on to put six more past Curacao with Kai Havertz scoring two goals, and won 7-1. 

 

Japan fight back after Netherlands tactical error

Japan are continuing to thrive on the international stage after coming from behind twice to draw 2-2 with the Netherlands in Dallas. 

After a cagey first half with few chances, the Dutch took the lead in the 51st minute courtesy of Virgil van Dijk, but the lead lasted just six minutes when Keito Nakamura equalised. 

The match then opened up, and the Dutch retook the lead in the 64th minute after Crysencio Summerville's precise finish found the bottom corner of Japan's goal.

Then came a tactical error from Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman, who decided to change his defence into a back five, which stagnated their play, opening the door for Japan to dominate for the rest of the match. 

The Japanese were finally rewarded for their efforts in the 89th minute when Daichi Kamada scored from a corner, something which not many expected considering some of the giants in the Netherlands team. 

Scotland fans invade America's pastime

Following their 1-0 win against Haiti on Saturday, the Scotland fans are continuing to make themselves at home in Boston after thousands descended on Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox.

The MLB franchise were in action against the Texas Rangers, and decided to have an evening which celebrated Scottish culture, and it's safe to say The Tartan Army were loving it under the Fenway Park lights. 

Ivory Coast and Sweden open World Cup campaigns with wins

Two more World Cup games took place on Sunday. 

The Ivory Coast scored a last-gasp winner against Ecuador in Philadelphia courtesy of Manchester United's Amad Diallo despite being under the cosh for much of the match, where Ecuador hit the bar on multiple occasions.

It was more comfortable for Sweden in Monterrey, who beat Tunisia 5-1. Sweden's first, scored by Yasin Ayari, was the country's first at a World Cup for 2,983 days. 

Graham Potter's side had a brief shock when Omar Rekik pulled one back in the 43rd minute to make it 2-1, but normal service resumed for Sweden, who scored a further three goals and now occupy top spot in Group F.
