South Korea beat Czech Republic 2-1 in first match

South Korea got their first win after beating the Czech Republic 2-1 to go level with Mexico at the top of Group A. 

The two teams clashed in Guadalajara, and the scoreline flattered the Czechs, who could have easily been two or three goals down at halftime. 

However, it was the Czech Republic who went ahead with a header from captain Ladislav Krejci in the 59th minute.

Hwang In-beom equalised for South Korea just eight minutes later before substitute Oh Hyeon-Gyu scored the winner in the 80th minute. 

After seeing Mexico's intense attack against South Africa earlier in the game, seeing it go head-to-head with South Korea in seven days' time is an exciting prospect. 

Canada without Alphonso Davies for World Cup opener

Tournament co-host Canada kick off their World Cup this evening against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but they will be without captain Alphonso Davies. 

Manager Jesse Marsch ruled him out at his pre-match press conference but hopes to have him back for the remaining group stage matches. 

Canada will be expected to qualify from their group, but Bosnia will not be a pushover, and have the talent to be one of the surprises at this year's tournament. 

Under pressure USA face Paraguay

Shortly after Canada's game with Bosnia comes to a close, the USA kick off their World Cup campaign against Paraguay in Los Angeles. 

There is a lot of expectation on the shoulders of Mauricio Pochettino's team to deliver with a group also containing Australia and Turkey.

Paraguay will be appearing in their first World Cup since 2010, and in that tournament they bettered the USA, and reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual winners Spain. 

Haaland enjoys Stanley Cup before World Cup debut

Norway striker Erling Haaland is certainly enjoying himself in the United States after he was spotted, along with his teammates, at game five of the Stanley Cup between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights. 

There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Norway team, who are appearing at their first World Cup since 1998, but especially Haaland, who will be looking to bring his club form to football's biggest stage. 

Norway kick off their World Cup campaign on Tuesday when they face Iraq at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
