Swiss complete the field with shootout success
The quarter-final picture is now complete following the final Round of 16 games on Tuesday, and it was Switzerland who progressed in the final fixture, at the expense of Colombia.
It wasn't an easy watch. After the events of the game earlier in the day, the goalless draw between these two nations really brought everyone back down to earth.
Not that the Swiss will care. Cucho Hernández's missed spot-kick eventually handed them the victory after no goals across the 120 minutes saw the tie decided by a penalty shootout.
They'll take that defensive resilience into a game against Argentina, who are slowly running out of World Cup lives.
Another record for the GOAT
Want drama? Then Argentina is the team to watch. They looked dead and buried at 2-0 with 13 minutes left to play, until Lionel Messi came alive once again.
For 80 minutes, he'd been anonymous - apart from missing a spot-kick - but he moved to the right flank, where he saw the space was, and in a matter of minutes had registered a goal and an assist to level the tie.
In doing so, he became the player with the most World Cup assists of all time and became the first player to score in six consecutive knockout matches.
What a strange quirk to his career that he's pretty average at penalties, though.
Speed's shirts of woe
For those who like a bit of superstition, you want to avoid YouTuber IShowSpeed and his current shirt curse.
The American content creator is well known for his love for the beautiful game and has been spotted at various games during the tournament.
However, luck hasn't been with the guy, because he's gained a growing reputation for attending games wearing the shirts of the team that loses the fixture.
