It looked as though we were seeing the final act of Belgium's golden generation as they headed into the final moments 2-0 down to Senegal in their last 32 tie, but they somehow found some gas left in the tank and managed the turnaround of the finals so far.
Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans scored in the final four minutes to set up extra time, and just when it looked as though the game was going to spot kicks, Belgium were awarded a penalty in the 124th minute and snuck through to the next round.
It was the latest goal ever scored in a World Cup finals and broke the hearts of the Africans, who for the most part were the far superior team.
Thomas has a message for schools
Those still getting over England's dramatic win over DR Congo are now planning how they can justify watching a 1am kick-off on Monday morning - including the thousands of kids who will want to watch their heroes.
Well, Thomas Tuchel has sent a tongue-in-cheek cry to parents by telling them to send a note to schools and let them watch the game! After all, he explained, you go to school every day, but these moments only come every four years.
