The World Cup is a tournament that puts legendary international teams in the ultimate spotlight, where their legacy can truly be cemented.
And no team defined their own era more than the Spanish side that dominated the national scene at the turn of the 2000s first decade.
The squad of players included some of the greatest names in the country's history, who made the term 'tika-taka' their own, thanks to their possession-based brand of winning football.
They first triumphed at Euro 2008, winning their first major trophy since 1964, but two years later, they set their sights on world domination and a first-ever World Cup win.
It didn't start off well, as the European champions were beaten by Switzerland, but after that early setback the machine took hold. They won their group, and then went on a run of 1-0 wins over Portugal, Paraguay and Germany to book their place in the final.
In Johannesburg, they faced the Netherlands, and in a feisty final, it was settled once again by the only goal. An extra-time strike from their midfield maestro Andres Iniesta was enough to secure a first World Cup win and place Spain as the team of the era.
Two years later, they made it three trophies in a row by banking another Euros, but for the Spanish, nothing will ever be as sweet as finally landing football's biggest prize.
