Who makes DAZN's 2026 FIFA World Cup team of the tournament?

In what was the biggest-ever World Cup, the tournament will leave a lasting legacy on both the competition's history and the US, where soccer has taken over the country. 

The moments will be talked about for the next four years, but which players stood out across the finals?

Goalkeeper - Vozinha (Cape Verde)

Unai Simón may have rightfully won the Golden Gloves, but no story at the World Cup was better than the Cape Verde veteran's. 

The 40-year-old starred in his first World Cup by keeping a clean sheet against the eventual winners in the opener and never let his standard drop as the small African Island went through the group unbeaten and then gave Argentina an almighty scare. 

Vozinha became an overnight sensation, with his Instagram followers going from 50k to nearly 5 million. What a moment in the North American sun. 

Honourable mention: Unai Simon (Spain) 

Right-back - Pedro Porro (Spain)

Part of the Spain back four that conceded just one goal throughout the tournament, Porro made a massive impact for the winners at both ends of the pitch. 

The Spurs defender was a constant outlet on the right flank and didn't let any of the big names get the better of him throughout the tournament - including against France in the semi-final. 

His two goals also helped the Spanish to two massive wins, especially he's composed finish for the second goal in the win over the French. 

Honourable mention: Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) 

Centre-back - Pau Cubarsi (Spain)

At just 19 years old, the centre-back is a World Cup winner, thanks to a tournament where his assured performances in the backline defied his tender years. 

Spain only conceded one goal and Cubarsi rarely ever looked like he was in any kind of danger during the finals, forming a formidable and intelligent partnership with Laporte in the centre of the champions' back four. 

Cool, calm and immensely clever, it was no surprise to see the Barcelona teen named the young player of the tournament. 

Honourable mention: Dayot Upemecano (France) 

Centre-back - Lisandro Martinez (Argentina)

Like or not, Argentina showed some defensive masterclasses across the tournament, even in the midst of a dismal, dull final showing. 

And, it was the Manchester United defender who was at the heart of everything that the South Americans did to get the job done in defence. 

Gritty, determined, Martinez epitomised the never-say-die attitude of Lionel Scaloni's men and even popped up with a key goal in the scare against Cape Verde.

Honourable mention: Aymeric Laporte (Spain) 

Left-back - Marc Cucurella (Spain)

The new Real Madrid full-back showed his Spanish cohorts just what they'll be getting with another highly consistent tournament for the eventual winners. 

Cucurella played his role in Spain's defensive masterclass and his performances always remained at such a brilliantly high level throughout the finals. 

As left-backs go, he's now in the conversation as one of the best in the world in his position.  

Honourable mention: Nuno Mendes (Portugal) 

Midfield - Rodri (Spain)

A player back to his very best and the ideal moment. 

Many were concerned that the Ballon d'Or-winning Rodri would never return following his ACL injury, but the World Cup showed he is back and could well add another Golden Ball to his trophy cabinet. 

The Spanish captain was the controlling influence at the hub of the team, where his passing range and defensive shield in front of the back four were at times unplayable. It was no surprise to see him named Player of the Tournament. 

Honourable mention: Ayyoub Bouaddi (Morocco) 

Midfield - Jude Bellingham (England)

Who else? A tournament where Bellingham proved his point and showed why he's very much the present and future of this England team. 

His all-action displays helped drag England through the tournament - along with Harry Kane - to make everyone feel very silly that they ever doubted his place in the team.

His seven goals mean no Three Lions player has scored more World Cup goals in a single tournament, and it could be a sign of his future role for the national team. 

Honourable mention: Fabian Ruiz (Spain) 

Attacking midfield - Michael Olise (France)

The Bundesliga Player of 2026 just simply carried his domestic form into the World Cup and was the tournament's chief creator. 

His seven assists were more than any other player in North America as France finished fourth, and it's a tally that has already put him in the top five of all-time World Cup assists.

And he does it all with the effortless aura of someone who makes it look so, so easy. 

Honourable mention: Martin Odegaard (Norway) 

Right wing - Lionel Messi (Argentina)

What is there left to say about Lionel freakin' Messi. Just when there were some small doubts about the Argentina captain going into the tournament, he produced another campaign that defies belief. 

Eight goals, four assists and a match-winning performance just when his country needed him to show why he is the greatest of all time. 

It's just a shame it had to end on such a sour note for the 39-year-old. 

Honourable mention: Ousmane Dembele (France) 

Left wing - Kylian Mbappe (France)

A groundbreaking, record-breaking World Cup for Kylian Mbappe, who underlined that he is now the tournament's very best. 

His ten goals saw him become the first player in the competition's history to win two Golden Boots and it's a tally that now means he is the World Cup's all-time leading scorer. 

During the run to the last four, the Real Madrid superstar even became his country's all-time goalscorer, too. All that was missing was the actual trophy. 

Honourable mention: Vinicius Jr (Brazil) 

Striker - Erling Haaland (Norway)

Turned up to his first-ever World Cup and did exactly what Erling Haaland does - score goals, and lots of them. 

It took less than half an hour for the striking Viking to open his World Cup account, and it was the first of seven goals he'd score as he led Norway to the quarter-finals. 

His brace against Brazil and how nonchalantly he took them were among the moments of the finals and were pure Haaland vibes. 

Honourable mention: Harry Kane (England)
