Grant McCann keeping the faith as Doncaster draw with Notts County
Grant McCann is in no mood to press the panic button as Doncaster Rovers’ search for a first win of the season continues.
Isaac Hutchinson had Rovers ahead against Notts County only for Ollie Cooper to equalise for the visitors in a competitive 1-1 draw.
While frustrated that Doncaster let a lead slip for the second successive game, manager McCann is confident winning form is near for his side.
“The frustrating thing about the draws is that we could easily have won three of them,” he said. “Losing the lead in the last two is the most frustrating thing about it.
“We had more opportunities to win the games but we didn’t and we’ve got to lick our wounds and go again.
“I think the wins are just around the corner so we’ll just keep believing and trusting what we do. I’ve got firm belief in the boys.
“We’ve made a lot of signings that take time to adjust and once we start improving, they’ll improve.
“We’re four games in and we’re unbeaten in three. We know there’s more to come from us and I’m convinced we’ll grow into the season as it goes.
“I’m pleased for Isaac Hutchinson to get the goal because he is one that is growing into it.
“On reflection, this one was probably a fair result but I felt we had more chances to probably win the game.”
Notts County head coach Martin Paterson felt there were plenty more lessons for his side to heed as their positive start to life back in League One continued.
County remain unbeaten since promotion to the third tier and while disappointed his side did not take the win at Doncaster, Paterson was pleased with large aspects of the performance.
“We’re growing,” he said. “I didn’t expect to come into this division and just start banging goals in, keep clean sheets and win every week.
“We’re adapting to the level and we’re humble enough to understand that. We try to get better every week.
“We’re doing a lot to get back into the games and there’s a positive in that but we just need to keep working on things.
“At times you have to say that taking a point away from home is a professional way of going about things but I would ask could we have done more and scored more? Yes, but that’s why we train and we have another game on Saturday where we can try to correct things.
“I’m not too disappointed with this one but I’m not overly patting ourselves on the back either. We’re level par and just trying to get better. It ebbed and flowed quite viciously and I’m disappointed with the goal we conceded because it’s another individual error
