Late goals from Lautaro Martinez and Valentin Carboni rescued Inter Milan from another embarrassing result at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday, as the Nerazzurri battled late to secure a 2-1 victtory over a stout Urawa Red Diamonds side.
It was the Japanese outfit that got on the board first, as a well-executed counterattack led to a smooth finish by Ryoma Watanabe in the 11th minute of the match. That goal came against the run of play as Inter dominated possession before and after Watanabe's strike, but the Italian giants were wasteful with the ball and appeared headed for another dreadful result after drawing with Mexican side CF Monterrey in their tournament opener.
However, Martinez made the most of Inter's first shot on target, which came in the 78th minute and resulted in a beautiful volley from the Argentine. Then, with the game just seconds away from ending, Carboni pounced on a loose ball inside the Urawa penalty area and broke Red Diamonds hearts with a cool finish to claim all three points for Inter.
