Liverpool legend backs Haaland to become 'best goalscorer of all time'
Erling Haaland has been tipped to become “the best goalscorer of all time” after netting twice in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Porto last night.
The Norwegian hotshot’s second-half double ensured Enzo Maresca’s side opened their Champions League campaign with three points in Portugal.
Haaland has now scored 364 senior goals for club and country, while he is already the third-highest scorer in City’s history, with 167 in just 203 appearances for the club.
And former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes the 26-year-old striker will go down in the record books as the best the game has ever seen.
"I just can't see Haaland not scoring 1,000 goals or being the best goalscorer of all time,” he told CBS Sports.
"I've never seen anything like it in terms of goals and numbers — and it is every game. But because he does it so often, it does not feel that big.
"He has just scored two goals away from home in the Champions League. If any other striker does that, it is an amazing night. It just feels like a normal night [for him].
"I just can't see how he does not end up being the greatest goalscorer or getting the most goals we have ever seen anybody get."
After equalling Sergio Aguero's record of 36, Haaland needs just one goal to become City's all-time top scorer in the Champions League.
And the former Borussia Dortmund star believes he should have achieved that feat against Porto.
Speaking to Amazon Prime post-match, he said: "Amazing game against the champions of Portugal. We knew it was going to be a difficult fight, man against man.
“They're a top team, impressive, all of them. They play amazing football.
"Well done to them. But with all the pressure, we have to deliver on the biggest stage. That's what we did tonight.
"Honestly, we controlled the whole first half. Of course, it's a bit uncomfortable when they come high.
“But we created a lot of chances. I could have easily had a few more goals.

“Second half, we scored and they managed to push us for a good 25 minutes. We managed to hold through and finish the game.
"These are the games we have to win. We have had a great start to the season.
“In the Champions League, you have to win games. If not, you get all the pressure."
Having made an impressive start in Europe, Haaland and Co can now turn their attention to Sunday’s Premier League clash with fierce rivals Manchester United.
Should they win at Old Trafford, City will be a staggering eight points ahead of their neighbours after just four games.
