Luke Williams expects ‘real deal’ Harry Leonard to get better and better

The 22-year-old former Blackburn striker earned Williams’ praise after expertly slotting home a first-half spot-kick for the League One side at the Memorial Stadium.

“Harry’s an outstanding player and I liked his performance today because there was a lot of dirty stuff that he had to do,” Williams said.

“There was a lot of direct play and he had to go and compete and challenge people on the long balls.

“But he also had a couple of chances and he looked the real deal, especially when he dispatched the penalty in the style you’d expect from a top striker.

“Harry’s a really good player with a long way to go and I’m certain that he will get better and better because he’s young and desperate to do well.”

Rovers manager Steve Evans lamented the penalty decision that ultimately condemned the League Two outfit to a first-round Carabao Cup competition at the first hurdle for the seventh consecutive season.

“Our performance was patchy,” Evans said. “We started brightly and then we lowered that intensity, Posh had a spell and gave a decision which we think is harsh.

“If you can’t elevate your arms to head the ball, you’re never going to head the ball in your own penalty area.

“In the second half it was a bit scrappy but we made a few changes and then we took control and created the three best chances of the game.”
