Michael Carrick says Man Utd 'can enjoy winning' after cruising past Aston Villa

The Red Devils continued their scorching run of results under Carrick, who took over as caretaker manager earlier this year. Including Sunday's win, Man United have claimed 22 of 27 points with Carrick on the sidelines, leading to their meteoric rise up the standings.

However, the former Man United midfielder is "keeping a lid on" any talk of the side being in position to finish inside the top three, as there is still much of the campaign left to go.

"We can enjoy winning," Carrick told the BBC. "It's a good feeling and something we want to keep getting used to.

"We are keeping a lid on it and understanding where we are and what it takes to win games like today. We are in a good position at the moment but still a lot to play for."

Man United started the day tied on points with Villa, but Sunday's match was an example of how each team has been trending. Villa's recent form has seen them fall out of the Premier League title race and now clinging to a top-four position, while the Red Devils have been on a sharp rise, albeit with a stumble or two along the way.

"I was pretty happy with a lot of things," Carrick said. "We looked a good team.

"Credit to them, they had a couple of spells in the game but for the most part we were dangerous. It was a big game coming off the defeat.

"The boys reacted incredibly well."
