Nathan Jones sees similarities with Charlton and Luton
Nathan Jones believes Charlton are on the same “trajectory” as his former Luton team – after they remained unbeaten thanks to a 1-1 draw at West Brom.
Tyreece Campbell cancelled out Callum Styles’ opener, as the Addicks maintained their blistering start to the season at The Hawthorns.
And Jones believes there are big similarities between his current charges and the side he had in a previous spell at Luton, who went on to reach the Premier League.
He said: “We are on that trajectory with what we did at Luton during my two spells there.
“We built a team to go through the leagues, I went and then came back and built a team that was on the brink of promotion and got promoted.
“We are on that trajectory, after four games we are in a good place, and let’s not mess about, we are favourites to go down.
“Not one of the favourites, we are the favourites and people are saying they can’t sustain it, but that is fine.
“We gave the ball away too much at times in the first half and were not brave enough.
“After they scored and we made subs, we were much better and got back into it. It’s optimistic to say we should have gone on to win it, but we did finish strongly and it is a great point.”
Albion boss James Morrison was left frustrated but has taken plenty of positives from the Baggies’ start to the campaign.
He added: “I’m frustrated we didn’t win the game to be honest. We were really good in the first half and lacked that last little bit.
“At half time it was a case of we have got them where we want them, we’re tiring them out and we just need to kick it up a level.
“We did that and they have one opportunity where they get into the box and it ends up in our goal.
“When we are dominant and they are not getting a kick, we need to not let them get in and around the box, or stop the cross.
“They are good at what they do, and proved that by picking up the results they have, but we have to be better around the box.
“But in a short period of time we have come a long way, especially having brought in a lot of new signings who are finding their feet, so that is positive.”
Albion finally broke the deadlock after 59 minutes with a thunderous strike from Styles from 18 yards out.
But they were hit with a sucker punch as Campbell turned home Charlton’s only effort on target 10 minutes later from a Miles Leaburn knock down.
