National League games this week: Can Boreham Wood and Rochdale pounce as heavyweights clash?

After a sensational weekend of Non-League football, it is even tighter at the summit, with Boreham Wood and Rochdale picking up victories, while York City, Carlisle United and Forest Green Rovers were all held.

There are 10 games to choose from across Tuesday and Wednesday night, with Woking's clash against Sutton United postponed due to the Cards' participation in the Isuzu FA Trophy.

With two of the division's title chasers set to meet, the Wood and the Dale could have the opportunity to top the pile in what is an ever-changing promotion picture

Key National League matches this week

Carlisle United vs. York City

• Date: Wednesday, January 21
• Time:  7.45pm

Table-topping York host third-place Carlisle on Wednesday night in what must be considered the game of the week at the LNER Community Stadium.

While both sides could only draw on Saturday afternoon, they will have contrasting feelings about the manner in which they picked up their points.

Mark Hughes' men were involved in a 3-3 classic away to Solihull Moors, but surrendered a stoppage-time equaliser, having come from behind to lead 3-2 heading into the final stages of the match.

As for the Minstermen, they will feel as if it was a point gained from their 1-1 home draw with Southend United, with the league's top goalscorer Ollie Pearce bagging an 87th-minute leveller.

With only goal difference separating the two teams before kick-off, the result is set to have substantial ramifications for the promotion race.

Boreham Wood vs. Scunthorpe United

• Date: Tuesday, January 20
• Time:  7.45pm 

Boreham Wood may be focused on results, but nobody can ignore the fact that they are a serious contender to achieve automatic promotion to League Two.

Luke Garrard's side continued their rampant run last weekend by romping to a 3-0 victory away to Braintree Town, which means they have won their last six league games on the spin.

The Wood are sandwiched between York and Carlisle in second position, and with the pair set to meet on Wednesday, they can go top of the table, at least temporarily, if they dispose of Scunthorpe United.

However, the Iron have their own promotion aspirations this season, and although they are a shoo-in to secure a play-off place, they do have a sniff of the title if they can maintain their strong form.

Scunthorpe's four-match winning streak did come to a dramatic end last weekend after Andy Butler's side conceded a 97th-minute penalty to draw 2-2 with relegation-threatened Morecambe.

Solihull Moors vs. Rochdale

• Date: Wednesday, January 21
• Time: 7.45pm 

While they may not be top of the pile, Rochdale will be confident of their chances of lifting the title after three of their promotion rivals failed to win last weekend.

The Dale sit comfortably in fourth place and behind the league leaders by just a point, but crucially, they now have as many as four games in hand on the teams around them.

Jimmy McNulty's men made easy work of bottom-side Gateshead on the weekend with a 2-0 win, and although the result was a formality, they did exactly what was asked of them.

In Solihull Moors, Rochdale face a potentially tricky opponent at the ARMCO Arena, and they will be flying high after they snatched a late draw against Carlisle on home turf.

Chris Millington's side have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs and have only been beaten once in their last nine in all competitions.
