Two goal scorer William Osula 'delighted' with Newcastle victory over West Ham

The Magpies still have an outside shot at European football next season, with Sunday's result pulling them to within three points of eighth-place Brentford ahead of next weekend's final day of Premier League action. Brentford are currently in line for a berth in the UEFA Conference League, and while Newcastle can draw level on points with the Bees next week, several other results will need to go their way as well.

Regardless, Newcastle did what they had to do against a desperate West Ham side looking to stave off relegation, with Nick Woltemade scoring in the 14th minute for the hosts before William Osula notched a brace to put the result beyond doubt.

For Osula, whose season total was boosted to seven Premier League goals after Sunday, the victory at St. James' Park was just desserts for the Magpies.

"We're delighted," Osula told Sky Sports. "It was very important to get the three points, especially in the last home game [of the season].

"It's important to get the first goals and be ready at the start of the game, so we're glad we started strong."

With just one match remaining and a potential spot in the Conference League still at play, Osula noted that Newcastle will continue to give their best until the final whistle next weekend despite finishing an otherwise disappointing campaign.

"We've got our heads down in training and worked hard to make sure we finish the season strong," he said. "Everybody wants to do the best for the club."
