Premier League 2026-27: Meet the nine new managers in the dugout

But a record nine new bosses will be in the dugout when the 2026-27 Premier League season kicks off later this month.

While some already have top-flight experience, nearly half are new to managing in England.

The previous high was recorded in 2016-17, when eight sides went into the campaign with fresh faces in charge.

Andoni Iraola (Liverpool)

With Premier League experience under his belt from a successful spell as Bournemouth boss, 44-year-old Iraola is expected to turn Liverpool into title challengers once again.

Much will depend on player recruitment, which has largely been underwhelming so far this summer.

Enzo Maresca (Manchester City)

After leaving Chelsea under a cloud in January, Maresca was finally unveiled as Pep Guardiola’s successor at Manchester City last month.

While replacing his former mentor is a tough ask, having goal machine Erling Haaland leading the charge gives the 46-year-old Italian a chance of living up to expectations.

Xabi Alonso (Chelsea)

After a 2025-26 campaign to forget left Calum McFarlane in temporary charge following the axing of Maresca and Liam Rosenior, Alonso is tasked with transforming an underperforming Chelsea squad.

Encouragingly, the 44-year-old Spaniard has seemingly been given a greater say in signings, with the arrivals of Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson adding much-needed experience.

Marco Rose (Bournemouth)

Rose, 49, has plenty of experience under his belt and Bournemouth fans will take heart from the trophies he won while in charge of Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

With a first European campaign to look forward to, Cherries fans have high hopes — but their new manager will have his work cut out to better last season’s finish of sixth in the Premier League.

Oliver Glasner (Nottingham Forest)

Despite being Crystal Palace's most successful manager, 51-year-old Glasner declined a new contract amid growing frustration with the club's transfer plans.

While Palace's loss is definitely Nottingham Forest’s gain, their turnover of managers may leave the Austrian looking over his shoulder if results don’t go his way.

Pierre Sage (Crystal Palace)

Sage has a monumental challenge on his hands at Crystal Palace after Glasner led Palace to FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League glory. 

Having previously managed Lyon and Lens in his homeland, it will be interesting to see how the 47-year-old Frenchman handles life in the Premier League.

Alvaro Arbeloa (Fulham)

After waving goodbye to Marco Silva at the end of his contract, Fulham turned to the relatively inexperienced Arbeloa to take the reins.

Having managed Real Madrid B, the 43-year-old Spaniard took charge of the senior side in January before stepping down at the end of last season.

Gary O’Neil (Ipswich)

With Kieran McKenna quitting after five seasons at the helm, Ipswich have turned to a boss with Premier League experience for their return to the big time.

Despite managing Bournemouth and Wolves, 43-year-old O'Neil will need all of his managerial nous to keep the newcomers up. 

Matthias Jaissle (Newcastle)

Abdullah Ahmed / Stringer

Jaissle, 38, has big shoes to fill as Eddie Howe’s successor and will need to hit the ground running to win over the Toon Army.

Big-name departures have undoubtedly weakened Newcastle’s squad and the German tactician, who previously managed Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Ahli, faces a baptism of fire with opening games against Liverpool and Tottenham.
