What did Jose Mourinho learn from his first game back as Real Madrid boss?

There were appearances by Camavinga, Valverde and Arda Guler, while new signing Denzel Dumfries made his first outing in a Real shirt.

A sharpshooter 

The future of Endrick has been one of the threads running through the Bernabeu this summer, having spent last season on loan at Lyon. 

Yet it looks like there's a clean slate under Mourinho, and the Brazilian may get a chance to fulfil his potential this season. 

His performance against Fiorentina won't have done his chances any harm either, where he put in a sharp performance in front of goal. 

The 20-year-old netted the opener and was a menace throughout, proving he could be a real asset in attack this season.

A rapid right 

Trent Alexander-Arnold's roller-coaster ride at Madrid took another turn when the club signed Denzel Dumfries this summer, further clouding the future of the former Liverpool man's position. 

Against Fiorentina, however, Mourinho played both men on the right flank, with Dutchman Dumfries playing ahead of Alexander-Arnold as part of an attacking-looking duo.

When Mourinho has a full squad available, this option may fall down the pecking order, but it's definitely one he wants to consider.

Squad strength 

What was unusual - particularly for the first pre-season friendly was Mourinho's reluctance to make changes to his starting line-up until after the hour mark. 

Did this suggest that the players on the bench will be very much on the outside fringes of the squad? And, once more first-team names arrive, he'll be more willing to rotate given that all the squad will need match sharpness ahead of the new campaign?
