Serie A weekend round-up: Hojlund the hero for Napoli, as Inter cool off Como

In a title race with such fine margins, a couple of results can change the complexion entirely, and that’s what we’ve seen this weekend in Serie A .
With Milan still to play and have their say, there seems to be a top three forming at the top, while one team could be cut adrift at the bottom of the table.
Here's a round-up of the big talking points from Serie A's matchday 14.
Inter cool Como
Much of the talk going into the weekend was whether Como were the team everyone had been sleeping on in the Serie A title hunt.
Cesc Fabregas’ men had only lost one game all season, going into their trip to the San Siro, but their opportunity to gatecrash the cluster at the top of the league went up in flames thanks to a first-class performance from Inter.
Christian Chivu’s men put four past a Como team that has previously only conceded seven goals, in a dominating performance to see them briefly go top of the pile.
Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring on 11 minutes before second-half goals through Marcus Thuram, Hakan Calhanoglu and Carlos Augusto sealed the statement victory.
They are now just a point behind leaders Napoli, as a repeat of the top two from last season looks slowly to be forming.
One hell of a win for Hellas Verona
It took 14 games into the season, but finally, Hellas Verona secured a win, one that few saw coming.
Paolo Zanetti’s men put in their best performance of the campaign by racing into a 2-0 first half lead against Atalanta, thanks to goals from Rafik Belghali and the impressive Giovane.
They wrapped the game with twenty minutes to go, with Antoine Bernede adding a third, and allowed the fans to finally taste a first victory of 2025-26.
It was bad news for both Atalanta and new boss, Raffaele Palladino, who’s yet to turn the tide since taking over, as well as Fiorentina.
They remain the only winless side left in the division after their defeat to Sassuolo.
Roma reeling
A week after losing at home to Napoli in a game where they could have really thrown down their weight at the top of Serie A, Roma are now instead looking at back-to-back defeats after a shock reverse against Cagliari.
In a disappointing performance, the game turned following Zeki Çelik’s red card and it saw the home side take advantage, eventually finding a winner through Gianluca Gaetano.
The result leaves Roma four points off the top and with teams behind them closing in.
Danish Destroyer
In the round’s headline act, it was Rasmus Hojlund who ruined Luciano Spalletti’s return to Naples as his two goals saw Napoli beat Juventus to return to the top of the league.
The Danish striker scored in each half, either side of a Kenan Yildiz goal, to see Antonio Conte’s men edge an enthralling encounter. It sees Hojlund bring his total up to six goals in 15 games since his loan move from Manchester United.
