Another day of UEFA Champions League action is in the books, and Wednesday's matches gave us no shortage of drama as star players shone and some of the favourites to challenge for the title showed their pedigree.

Here are three of the bigger talking points from Wednesday's games.

Liverpool's late show expands into Europe

Much has been made of Liverpool's early body of work in the Premier League — the defending champions have won all four of their matches and all of those wins came from goals scored in the 83rd minute or later.

It's become a point of contention among supporters of the Reds and opposition fans alike, as Arne Slot's side seem to have the Midas touch as the clock ticks down.

On Wednesday, things looked like they would be different as the Reds jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the first six minutes, as a shell-shocked Atletico Madrid seemed headed for a drubbing. Instead, the Spanish side regrouped and slowly grew into the match, and Marcos Llorente's two goals put Atletico on the front foot in the dying moments.

However, Atletico could not find a third goal, and it was Virgil van Dijk's booming header in the fifth minute of stoppage time that sealed all three points for Liverpool as the Anfield faithful once again got to witness late game heroics from a side that already feels like a team of destiny.

Kane remains a thorn in Chelsea's side

Harry Kane no longer plays in the Premier League, but he still showed the ability to haunt his old opponents in England as he scored a brace to lead Bayern Munich to a 3-1 victory over Chelsea at the Allianz Arena.

The 32-year-old has not slowed down since his move to Munich two summers ago, and on Wednesday he showed that he can score in very different ways as he coolly slotted home a penalty kick in the 27th minute before banging in the game-winner just after the hour mark after receiving a gift fom the Chelsea defence.

Kane remains instrumental to everything Bayern want to achieve in the Champions League, and several Premier League teams are among the sides that stand in their way. After handing an 'L' to Chelsea, he'll get a shot at former North London rivals Arsenal in late November.

PSG lay down a marker

Any thoughts of Paris Saint-Germain losing their motivation after winning last season's Champions League were emphatically dismissed as the Ligue 1 giants hammered Atalanta 4-0 at the Parc des Princes.

The scoreline was thoroughly indicative of how the game played out, as PSG dominated in all aspects of the match and easily could have had several more goals if not for Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.

Four different players put etched their names on the scoresheet as Luis Enrique's men showed that they can produce goals despite the absence of Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué.
