‘Strong’ culture cheers Henrik Pedersen as Sheffield Wednesday beat Peterborough

Defender Yan Valery scored the winner for the Owls in the 79th minute after Posh’s Ben Woods had cancelled out Josh Feeney’s own goal.

It gave Pedersen’s side a fourth win in five matches, following their relegation from the Championship.

“It’s a good beginning,” he said. “We know things can [change] quick but, for me, I’m really, really proud [not only] of the way that [we’ve] won four out of five but the culture in our team is strong.

“It’s a big job to find 18 players and to find so many good characters in one transfer window – it’s amazing.

“And then again fitness – we’ve had a top pre-season but we also got a lot of players after this.

“We need to bring everyone up to level and then we need to have a much, much stronger connection and relationship.

“We will grow and we will work with this and then we will also grow through the season and be much stronger than we are now.”

Defeat for Peterborough means they now have just one win from their opening five matches.

Boss Luke Williams was impressed by his team’s performance overall but was left to rue individual errors.

“We’ve suffered in both boxes,” he said.

“We’ve not converted a couple of big chances that we’ve had and conceded from half chances really.

“It’s a shame because I think we played a good first half and we looked like we were doing everything we could to win the game.

“We made a basic error (for the first goal) and that’s a shame because it ruined a good 45-minute performance.

“We had to carry on and had to do everything we could to score (in the second half) and we did that.

“We started really bright, scored, but then we conceded from a corner that I think is avoidable.

“It wasn’t the cutest of corners that catches you out or something like that. Everyone was in the correct place, everyone knew their job.

“We just didn’t deliver the job perfectly well and so we paid the price for that one.”
