Aaron Donald's Rams tryout sparks reaction from McVay, Garrett

As a three-time DPOY and arguably the best defensive player of his generation, his official tryout has drawn new reactions from coach Sean McVay, Myles Garrett, DC Chris Shula, and seemingly even Donald's own wife.

A brief history of Donald's comeback buzz

Donald has practised at the Rams' facility on and off since retiring, but evidence that he could be set for a return has been building steadily since LA landed DPOY Myles Garrett.

"It for sure got me thinking," Donald reportedly said in a reply to a text from Pat McAfee.

Michael Brockers teased knowing more than he was letting on, telling the Locked On Rams Squad Show that he had "some information that might be considered as some knowledge that others might not have," before adding that his former teammate is "staying ready, so he doesn't have to get ready."

And McVay himself had already hinted at how serious this is, telling Jason La Canfora on The Daily Flock Show that Donald "is thinking about this."

Donald works out for the Rams once more

Defensive line coach Giff Smith ran the latest session at the Rams' Woodland Hills complex, and defensive coordinator Chris Shula caught up with reporters once camp wrapped for the day.

"I heard it was good," Shula said with a smile. "It was more [about] how he felt. Obviously, we'd be really excited about that. You're getting one of the best players of all time."

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Donald skipped the pads but insisted on the helmet, a small detail that speaks to how deliberately he's approaching this, piece by piece rather than all at once.

McVay leans into Donald "tryout" talk

Asked directly about Donald's tryout on Wednesday, McVay was in good spirits, telling NFL's Gregg Rosenthal, "I think he can make the team."

Garrett taking hands-off approach

Garrett returned to practice on Monday after missing four sessions due to lower-body soreness.

Speaking to reporters, he was careful not to heap pressure on Donald, even as he made his own admiration for the veteran obvious.

"I'm not going to push him either way," Garrett said. "It is a process, coming back from so much time off. Just get a feel of it."

"His footwork is impeccable," Garrett added. "He just has an outstanding feel for the game as well as being a freak athletically."

What did Erica Donald say?

Aaron Donald's wife posted a cryptic message on X on Wednesday.

Whether it's a shot at reporters for sharing inaccurate information about her husband or something altogether unrelated isn't clear, but the rumours haven't cooled off because of it.

And that's hardly surprising, given Donald would add to an interior already featuring Braden Fiske and Kobie Turner, alongside an edge unit among the league's elite.
