Nick Bosa and Christian McCaffrey not spotted at practice in Melbourne

Ahead of their matchup against the Rams in Melbourne, the 49ers had their first practice in Australia without Nick Bosa or Christian McCaffrey.
Bosa, who has missed most of training camp due to an ACL tear suffered in September 2025, was not spotted on Monday; however, it's believed he is on a specialized maintenance plan, meaning he's on track to play on Thursday.
Whereas McCaffrey, who's believed to be healthy, missed the joint drills in Melbourne after missing some of the 49ers' last practices in San Francisco due to "tightness."
49ers aiming for a healthy start of the season
It's not unknown the number of injuries the Niners have had in the last couple of seasons, sidelining most of their stars.
With most of the starters still questionable to play against the Rams, the 49ers are hoping most of them will play.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan did not disclose why neither the running back nor the defensive lineman were at practice, claiming that the 49ers are "technically in the future" and they don't have to report injuries until tomorrow.
Among other notable injury updates for the Niners is George Kittle, who tore his Achilles tendon back in January and practiced with no limitations on Monday with the team.
Kittle had been confident through the preseason, saying he aimed to start in Week 1; so far, he's "trending in the right direction," and it might be a "pretty close to game time decision."
Sam Okuayinonu was placed on injury reserve after sustaining a foot injury in the team's final practice before flying to Melbourne.
The defensive lineman will undergo surgery and is hoping he will be able to return by the end of the season.
