NFL: Odell Beckham Jr. secures his place on the Giants' roster

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has made the New York Giants’ 53-man roster. Sunday’s news cements a reunion with the franchise that drafted him more than a decade ago.
His place was far from guaranteed just days before roster cuts. Beckham had to wait until the final week of training camp to find his best form and convince John Harbaugh's coaching staff.
A place far from certain for Odell Beckham Jr.
Having arrived in June to bolster a wide receiver group depleted by injuries to Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton, Beckham had a relatively quiet start to camp.
His future in New York became even more uncertain when he failed to separate himself from the other roster candidates.
The serious injury to Calvin Austin III, who suffered a torn ACL, nonetheless changed the situation. Austin had been occupying an important slot role and appeared set to make the roster before his injury.
At the same time, Beckham produced his best sessions at the most decisive moment.

A convincing final audition against the Jets
Beckham timed his resurgence well, producing two strong practices before catching three passes for 53 yards in the Giants’ preseason finale against the Jets.
Beckham had already stirred memories in practice by pulling off a spectacular one-handed catch — an inevitable callback to the iconic grab he made against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014, one of the most celebrated images of his career.
The return of a former Giants star
Selected with the 12th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Beckham immediately emerged as one of the league’s most exciting playmakers.
He recorded 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns as a rookie before eventually being traded to the Cleveland Browns following the 2018 season.
Beckham later won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams, despite tearing his ACL during the game.
After missing the entire 2022 season, he reunited with John Harbaugh at the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, then played nine games with the Miami Dolphins in 2024.
He remained a free agent throughout 2025, a season during which he also served a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy.
Beckham wanted to earn his place
No guarantees were offered to Beckham when he signed with the Giants. He knew he would have to win over the coaching staff on the same terms as every other roster candidate.
That approach has ultimately paid off. Beckham will now return to MetLife Stadium and a fanbase that gave him some of the loudest ovations of training camp.
His connection to New York remains undiminished.
Eleven years on from his spectacular debut in blue, Odell Beckham Jr. will have another opportunity to chase that goal.
