AP Top 25 Poll: Ohio State remains on top, Michigan falls out

After being ranked second in the preseason poll, Oregon fell to sixth place after a narrow 34-27 win against Boise State on Saturday.

Michigan fell out of the Top 25 after a controversial ending to their 13-12 victory against Western Michigan.

Here is a breakdown of the top five teams and the full list of the AP Poll Top 25.

1 - Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes started their 2026 campaign with a dominating 56-3 win over Boise State.

Heisman Trophy favourites, Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith, demonstrated supremacy even though they just played the first half and some of the second.

The quarterback added up 320 yards, three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.

Whereas the wide reciever had 151 yards and two touchdowns, one of which he celebrated with a familiar stance.

Ohio State will face Texas in Austin this Saturday.

2 - Georgia Bulldogs

The Bulldogs cruised over TN State with ease on a 63-3 victory in Athens.

Gunner Stockton showed dominance for a Georgia team that is hoping to go back to their winning ways this season.

The 22-year-old threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns in their opening game of the season.

Georgia will face Western Kentucky next, also at home.

3 - Notre Dame Fighting Irish

CJ Carr and Aneya Williams have it all under control for Notre Dame as their performance helped lead the Fighting Irish to a 41-13 win against Wisconsin on Sunday.

The quarterback threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns while the running back had 20 carries, 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Carr is coming into the season as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.

The Fighting Irish will face Rice at Notre Dame Stadium to continue their run.

4 - Texas Longhorns

Texas dominated Texas State over a 59-7 win at home, as Arch Manning comes into a new season hungry for more.

Still with an interception, Manning had 305 yards and four touchdowns to help the Longhorns win on Saturday.

Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo also had themselves a day, as Wingo summed up 121 yards and a touchdown, and Coleman had 70 yards and two touchdowns.

The Longhorns will face Ohio State at home for an exciting top-five matchup.

5 - Indiana Hoosiers

Indiana proved it might not be over now that Fernando Mendoza left for the NFL.

The Hoosiers beat North Texas 52-16 in Bloomington at their first game since they were crowned National Champions back in January

Josh Hoover had a dream debut in Indiana with 231 yards and four touchdowns to seal the win, while both Charlie Becker and Turbo Richard had two touchdowns each.

Indiana will face Bison at home on Saturday.

Notable mentions and misses: LSU, Michigan, Virginia

LSU is now in the top-10 of the AP Poll list after a dominant 51-10 win against a defenseless Clemson.

Virginia made a surprise appearance at No. 25, marking the earliest in a season that the Cavaliers have been ranked since 2005.

Probably the most notable miss of the list was Michigan, who barely scraped by with a 13-12 win against Western Michigan on a controversial ending to the game.
