Rams HC Sean McVay addresses Aaron Donald comeback speculation

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about it on Jason LaCanfora's Daily Flock podcast this week, and while he stopped short of a direct answer, he didn't exactly shut it down either.

"I have crossed paths with Aaron Donald," McVay said. "What's special is, we have a really special relationship. It's way bigger than football.

"I've heard him say it before, and it means the world to me, and I feel the same; it's family with us. He's done so much for me. I love the man he is.

"I love the husband, the father, the son; he represents a lot of the things that are right. And what he's going to do is, he is thinking about this.

"He's going to go through his process. And the one thing about Aaron Donald is, what he does, he does it full speed ahead."

None of that confirms anything, but McVay was never going to force a timeline on a guy whom he respects so much.

Can the Rams' D-line get any scarier?

Of course, the reason this story won't go away, at least until Donald gives a firm answer one way or another, is what he could still bring to the table at 35.

Between 2014 and his retirement, he won a Super Bowl, racked up 111 sacks, received 10 Pro Bowl nods, and was named an All-Pro eight times.

Pairing reigning DPOY and newcomer Myles Garrett with Byron Young, Braden Fiske and Kobie Turner already gives the Rams one of the more dangerous fronts in the league.

Add a three-time DPOY back into that equation, even with a reduced workload, and we could be looking at the best defensive line in modern history.

The Rams report to training camp on Saturday, and there's no expectation Donald walks through that door with them then, but for a team that's building toward January football, time is on their side.
