Rams' McDuffie reveals problem with Aaron Donald's comeback

If Aaron Donald comes out of retirement, the Los Angeles Rams will be at a loss for how the offensive line would handle him in practice.

Trent McDuffie revealed that Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford told him "they don't even know" who the offensive line would double-team in their star-studded defensive front.

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, McDuffie revealed how he feels about Donald's potential comeback and what it would mean for the whole Rams' defense.

McDuffie: "Cheesing just thinking about it"

Los Angeles' defensive line was already dominant, even before reigning DPOY and the NFL's single-season sack holder Myles Garrett joined in June.

He now pairs with the ascending Byron Young on the edge and talented DTs Braden Fiske and Kobie Turner on the interior, forming what should be the best defensive front we've seen for years.

The sky's the limit if three-time DPOY Donald is added to that group, even if his performances are a shade below the version that terrorised the NFL for a decade.

Trent McDuffie, the All-Pro corner who joined the Rams this summer, challenged McVay and Stafford about how they would deal with Donald in practice.

"How are you guys even going to do your blocking schemes?" he asked them. "Who are you going to slide to, who are you going to double team?"

"What problems does Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett have on the offense?” he continued.

The answer he received was short, sharp and to the point: "They’re both just like, ‘we don’t even know.'"

McDuffie went on to explain that, as a DB, his goal of shutting down offenses becomes much easier with Donald upfront.

“You add another player like Aaron Donald. For me, sitting on the back end, I’m cheesing just thinking about it.”

It's been more than two years since Donald played in the NFL, and eight years have passed since his incredible 20.5-sack season in 2018.

Now 35, we can't expect him to perform at the level we grew accustomed to in years gone by when he made ten Pro Bowls.

But his ability was such that he has farther to fall than most, and his dedication to remaining in shape gives him a chance to make a real impact.

What's more, in a rotation with Fiske and Turner, Donald's reduced snap count would ensure he's kept fresh.

The Rams' defense finished 10th last year in points allowed, and ranked seventh with 47 sacks.

If Donald returns, Garrett does Garrett-like things, and the rest of the group play as I believe they will, this Rams' defense should be a top-five unit in 2026.
