Which countries have won the FIBA Basketball World Cup?

Initially known as the FIBA World Championship, the inaugural men's tournament featured 10 teams and was held in Argentina in 1950, with the hosts claiming victory.

Three years later, the first women's championship took place in Chile as the United States defeated the hosts in the final.

Since then, the competition has changed names and expanded throughout the years, with 32 nations set to compete in the FIBA Men's World Cup in 2027 and 16 to contest in the Women's World Cup in 2026.

There have been a host of different winners of the tournament since its inception, but which countries have won the most World Cups? DAZN News looks back at all the champions in history.

Who has won the most FIBA World Cup titles?

The United States and Yugoslavia are tied on five men's titles each, although the latter have since become Serbia and Montenegro, competing as two separate nations.

USA lifted their most recent championship in 2014 by defeating Serbia 129-92 and also did so in 1954, 1986, 1994 and 2010.

Yugoslavia won the World Cup as recently as 2002, having been victorious in 1970, 1978, 1990 and 1998, while Serbia have reached two finals since.

The Women's World Cup has been dominated by the United States (11) and the Soviet Union (6), although the latter no longer exists, with Russia regarded as the principal successor.
