Mason open to Cordina clash despite late-notice collapse

Abdullah Mason is still open to facing Joe Cordina, but stresses he will not let the Briton potentially dictate his progression.
The Cleveland star had been due to mount a homecoming WBO lightweight defence this weekend against the Welsh fighter in Ohio.
But legal issues blocked Cordina from heading to the United States, leaving Albert Bell to fill the void on the bill, live on DAZN.
Now, the star has spoken about the potential to face his rival down the line - but insisted it will only work for his own benefit.

"For me, I feel like there are certain things that could stop a fighter's career from flourishing the way it should," he told DAZN.Â
"One of those things is determining my career based off somebody else's actions or choices. I'm open to whatever that pushes me forward
"Especially when it comes to facing another opponent [but] if they put themselves on the backburner, that's cool. I'm just going to keep pushing forward."
Cordina previously reigned as a two-time super-featherweight champion, holding the IBF strap between 2022 and 2024.
