Alycia Baumgardner fought in chief support to the iconic Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano trilogy at Madison Square Garden in New York City last summer.
Now, Baumgardner is headlining a Most Valuable Promotions event in Infosys Theater at MSG. It all takes place tonight when Baumgardner defends her IBF, WBO and WBA unified super featherweight titles against South Korean challenger Bo Mi Re Shin.
Baumgardner (17-1, 7 KOs) is coming off a huge 2025, having defended her titles in a pair of unanimous decision wins — first defeating Jennifer Miranda in July before outpointing Leila Beaudoin in December. Meanwhile, Shin (19-3-3, 10 KOs) scored a majority decision over Tywarna Campbell in November to rebound from a majority loss to Caroline Dubois last March.

Alycia Baumgardner steadily works behind a high, tight guard, first establishing her range behind the jab — whether it is aimed at an opponent’s head or body.
‘The Bomb’ does not waste time increasing her pressure by splitting opponents’ guards with that same jab, before piecing together quick-handed combinations.
Some of these combos end with hooks. Other times, it is a hook around the guard followed by a slicing uppercut.
Everything from the footwork, hand speed and shot selection seems to be in sync.
That is what Bo Mi Re Shin will be up against in trying to upset Baumgardner. Shin is aggressive stepping into her shots, often firing to the body and then face with a right-left effectively.
However, while stepping into her punches, Shin often leaves herself vulnerable and that could be a major push toward Baumgardner in this styles clash.

Shin touts 10 knockout victories to her name against Baumgardner’s seven KOs, though the champ’s hand speed gives her power a different dimension.
This power was on display against Leila Beaudoin who Baumgardner dropped with a compact, counter right hook during the final second of the seventh round.

Mental Warfare
Baumgardner feels like she’s in the zone, using Wednesday’s press conference to assert that she’s “hungrier, meaner and just sharper” than Shin.
It is hard to deny any of those claims as Baumgardner is about as locked in as any fighting champion that boxing has to offer. Plus, she has the deep bag of sweet science skills to dip into.
Shin has urgency to become world champion, but it is not enough to unseat Baumgardner in this category either.

Who has the edge in Baumgardner vs. Shin?
Baumgardner has plenty of potential big fights to explore whether against Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, a rematch with Mikaela Mayer, or a fight with Dubois.
It is hard to imagine her having a hiccup against a gritty, yet outmatched Shin.
