Amanda Serrano vs. Reina Tellez: Who has the edge heading into their fight?
Serrano vs Tellez: Subscribe to watch - Saturday

Her epic trilogy with Katie Taylor now in her rearview mirror, Amanda Serrano returns to the ring back at a familiar weight.

The seven-division world champion and Puerto Rican boxing legend will defend her unified featherweight WBA and WBO world titles against undefeated Reina Tellez at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and live globally on DAZN, on Saturday.

The 37-year-old Serrano (47-4-1, 31 KOs) enters the bout after falling short to Taylor via points at super lightweight in their trilogy fight last July. ‘The Real Deal’ was originally slated to fight Erika Cruz but Tellez stepped in as the replacement after Cruz’ VADA testing revealed an atypical finding. Meanwhile, Tellez (13-0-1, 5 KOs) had a busy 2025, producing two unanimous decision victories just over three months apart including her lopsided win over Mayela Perez in September. The 22-year-old is making the climb up from super bantamweight to featherweight for this bout, the biggest fight of her young career thus far.

Will Serrano launch her 2026 with a statement victory? Or will Tellez pull off the mammoth upset in coronating herself as a new queen of the ring? With the stakes incredibly high, DAZN News examines who has the edge heading into this world championship fight.

DAZN Q4 & Q1 2026 schedule

Boxing Styles

Behind a disciplined guard, Amanda Serrano is an all-action, pressure fighter.

It does not take long for ‘The Real Deal’ to step into a power jab and cut off the ring on opponents, paving the way for a high output of punches including a heavy-handed left hook that can do significant damage.

Giving up several inches in height, Tellez is going to have to work her way inside, giving Serano the opportunity to clip her coming in.

Edge: Serrano

Power

This category is not in debate as Serrano touts 31 knockout victories to her name for a KO ratio of 66 percent. Meanwhile, five of Tellez’ 13 pro wins have come by the way of knockout.

The challenger has power of her own, but it is not on par with Serrano’s, especially considering the pop ‘The Real Deal’ is able to generate with her left hook.

Edge: Serrano

Mental Warfare

A seven-division world champion, Serrano has been in absolute wars including the classic 30 rounds against Katie Taylor.

Fights like that have allowed Serrano to accrue invaluable experience including the sharpening of the ring IQ and savvy that goes with it.

Rich experience like this is going to make it difficult for Tellez to find a crack in Serrano’s steely makeup. Then again, at 22 with an incredible opportunity in front of her, Tellez has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Still, Serrano being battle-tested, tried and true gives the advantage with mental warfare.

Edge: Serrano

Who has the edge in Serrano vs. Tellez?

Stepping in on short notice can at times bode well for the challenger who can possibly catch the champion by surprise.

That said, Serrano had been training for this fight — albeit for Erika Cruz — only to switch gears to Tellez.

Serrano presents plenty of issues that a rugged Tellez will be forced to resolve.

For that reason, DAZN News has the edge residing with ‘The Real Deal.’

DAZN News gives her the 3-0 edge heading into the bout, though Han's ability to make this a fire fight can change everything.
