Before a global audience of 33 million views on Netflix, Anthony Joshua sure gave the boxing world — and beyond — something to talk about when authored a vicious sixth-round knockout of Jake Paul, fracturing the YouTuber turned boxer’s jaw.
It was a dramatic end to a colorful buildup between Paul and the two-time heavyweight world champion. AJ saw to that, adding to his highlight reel before an insatiable worldwide streaming viewership. It was far from his most esteemed victory, but one that shattered the Internet, nonetheless.
Exacting revenge on Andy Ruiz Jr.; December 7, 2019
It was just over six months removed since Andy Ruiz Jr. produced one of the biggest upsets in boxing — and sports — history by dropping Joshua four times en route to an epic seventh-round TKO upset at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The win made the massive underdog Ruiz the new unified heavyweight champion of the world.
The rematch in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia saw a disciplined, patient AJ working behind the jab and refusing to be baited into exchanges with the quick-handed Ruiz. The result was a dominant, near shutout as judges scored it 119-109, 118-110, 118-110 all in Joshua’s favor as he snatched his unified heavyweight titles back.

If Anthony Joshua was going to further entrench himself as the ruler of the glamour division, he’d need to do it against a fellow, undefeated heavyweight world champion in Joseph Parker. The bout took place in Cardiff, Wales and marked the first time in AJ’s pro career that he went the distance as Parker’s slick movement via slipping punches ensured that.
Still, Joshua pressed the action, earning the unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110, 118-110) to add the WBO heavyweight title to his collection of hardware.
A passing of the torch in a fight for the ages; April 29, 2017
At 41, Wladimir Klitschko was still in possession of supreme sweet science skills and plenty of fight. That was the fire that Joshua would have to walk through before 90,000-plus raucous fans at Wembley Stadium in London to become the new unified heavyweight champion of the world. After blasting Klitschko with a left hook and barrage of punches to drop the former unified ruler in the fifth round, Joshua looked like he wouldn’t have any trouble dismantling the older warrior.
But Klitschko showed his veteran savvy and grit by ending that round with a burst of punches and dropping Joshua with a sharp right hand in the sixth. With a serious fight on their hands, AJ uncorked a devastating uppercut to stagger Klitschko in the 11 th before depositing him on the canvas with a left-right combination.
Moments later, smelling blood, Joshua lumbered forward with a barrage of punches to chop Klitschko down to bring the roaring epic to a riveting end in a classic fight for the ages. Just like that, Joshua took the heavyweight torch, retaining his IBF title and adding Klitschko’s WBA (Super) gold.
Becoming a world champion; April 9, 2016
At 15-0, having just come off a seventh-round TKO of Dillian Whyte less than four months prior, Joshua had built up his resume enough to land a crack at the IBF heavyweight title held by formidable American Charles Martin.
Well, AJ made the most of his opportunity at the O2 Arena in London, lasering a sharp right hand to put Martin on his backside and then detonating a massive right hook onto the jaw be crowned the new IBF titleholder in crushing fashion.
A win over Prenga on Saturday will give Joshua the chance to hunt down a win he has been coveting for over 10 years in a clash with Tyson Fury.
