In what felt like an inevitable move, Whittaker has signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom, and he will make his debut with a fight against Benjamin Gavazi in Birmingham. 

This light heavyweight matchup headlines an intriguing card at bp pulse LIVE, which includes a former UFC star and a heated rematch.

Ben Whittaker needs to put on a show in Matchroom debut

For someone who is not afraid to express himself inside and outside of the ring, Ben Whittaker's professional career so far has struggled to take off. 

Despite avenging a controversial draw with Liam Cameron via a second-round stoppage in April, many are still yet to be convinced that Whittaker can make it to the top and be successful. 

Tonight's fight with Benjamin Gavazi could go a long way toward silencing the doubters. With head trainer Andy Lee, boxing fans will want to see Whittaker make easy work of his German foe and make a statement that he can, in fact, become a boxing superstar. 

If the fight goes the distance, Whittaker will once again find himself subject to criticism and questions about whether he is the real deal. 

It's knockout or bust in the West Midlands, and he needs to justify the hype Matchroom has given him and avoid becoming a British boxing dud.

Cameron Vuong and Gavin Gwynne meet in heated rematch

It will be a year since super lightweights Cameron Vuong and Gavin Gwynne clashed for the first time, and tonight they will look to settle their differences in a rematch. 

Vuong won the first encounter by unanimous decision, but it was a result which prompted outcry from the boxing public, who felt Gwynne had done enough to get his hand raised. 

This result is one which Gwynne is still bitter about, and during a press conference on Thursday, Gwynne hoped the judges would not be 'blindfolded' this time around. 

A controversial first fight, two fired-up boxers: this rematch has the chance to steal the show as Gwynne seeks revenge against the undefeated Vuong, who will want to convince those who called his November 2024 performance into question. 

Molly McCann returns after successful boxing debut

Two months after a successful debut, former UFC star turned boxer Molly 'Meatball' McCann returns to the ring on the Whittaker-Gavazi undercard. 

In the opposite corner will be Ebonie Cotton, who has had just one professional fight, beating Kira Carter on points in June. 

Fireworks are guaranteed whenever McCann steps into the ring with 'Meatball' not afraid to be on the front foot and throwing punches with real venom. 

Cotton will be in for a tough night in the West Midlands, and McCann will waste no time in trying to get this fight over and done with as she continues her whirlwind charge towards a world title shot.
