DAZN News rounds up the biggest boxing stories on Thursday, June 25.
Both Jaron 'Boots' Ennis and Xander Zayas have the know-how to dominate at light-middleweight, believes former champion Roy Jones Jr..
The duo meet on DAZN Pay-Per-View and Ultimate this weekend, with the former aiming for the latter's crown - and Jones is thrilled by it.
“It’s going to be a barnburner between two unbeaten guys,” he told The Ring. "[It] is going to tell us who we think is technically the best guy.
“I think Boots has everything necessary to dominate the division. Zayas has shown he has everything necessary to dominate the division, too."
Adam Olaniyan has revealed he turned down easier bouts than Viktar Chvarkou as the Irish star insists he wishes to test himself further.
A two-round KO triumph in Southampton last weekend came after the star revealed to Queensberry's social channels that he chased the bout.
"They said, "You could take another easy one. You can take somebody who's had more losses and less wins and who isn’t as experienced".
"But I said, "No, I want to test myself”. I'm an amateur world champion and want to show that I'm levels above these other prospects."
Matchroom Talent Agency have stepped up their pursuit of non-boxing stars with the arrival of UFC contender Ian Machado Garry to their stable.
The former previously added Tom Aspinall to their roster upon their launch, and have now backed it up by bringing in the Irish welterweight star.
With a 10-1 promotional record in UFC, Garry has courted acclaim and controversy from the UFC fanbase since emerging in 2021.
“Matchroom was built by a family that turned a vision into an empire," he said on the move. "Together we can continue to be disruptive and change the game."
Xander Zayas defends his WBO and WBA super welterweight titles against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis on Saturday, June 27, exclusively live on DAZN. Buy as a one-off PPV or included, along with Joshua vs. Prenga (July 25) and Canelo vs. M'billi (Sept 12) PPVs, with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription.
