Lopez attempts to swerve Catterall
Teofimo Lopez Jr. is attempting to swerve his mandatory WBA welterweight defence against Jack Catterall, reveals the star's manager Keith Connolly.
The former dethroned Rolly Romero in Las Vegas earlier this month for the body's Super crown, and must now face the Briton as Regular champion.
But Lopez has been agitated by such commitments, with Connolly telling The Ring they are seeking to circumvent the order and take another bout next.
"We’ll talk to the WBA," he said. "We are the Super champion, which comes with more privileges than Regular champion. Let's see how things play out."
Martinez eyes Canelo encounter
Lester Martinez wants to face Canelo Alvarez and rematch Christian M'billi - but admits he would rather face the Mexican first after his own next bout.
The former will battle Luka Plantic this weekend, with the winner getting a shot at the WBC super-middleweight crown the latter pair will contest next.
Martinez's only blemish on his record is a draw with M'billi - but speaking to The Ring ahead of his latest bout, the star acknowledges he has a preference.
“I don’t have a clear favorite in that fight,” he stated on the bout. "But if I had to choose one, I would rather fight Canelo [next] and then rematch Mbilli.”
Sanchez expects winter title shot
Pedro Taduran has seemingly moved onto an IBF strawweight defence against Brandon Moreno after he was spurred by divisional rival Oscar Collazo.
The former had hoped to make unification with the WBA and WBO champion, who has instead pursued a flyweight title bout with Ricardo Sandoval.
Now, Filipino star Taduran is instead expected to face Spanish foe Moreno on November 7, in what would be the fourth defence of his crown thus far.
The Ring reports it is likely the former will enjoy a bout on home turf too, with capital city Manila an apparent target to host any such encounter next.
