Major heavyweight clash confirmed and Fury goes back to Premier League stadium: What we learned from boxing last week

A big week in boxing saw several big names at heavyweight dominate the headlines.

Here are all major developments from another week in boxing.

Wardley vs Dubois confirmed

Daniel Dubois has jumped straight back into the deep end at heavyweight after agreeing to face Fabio Wardley on May 9 . 

After losing to Oleksandr Usyk last July, Dubois would be forgiven for building himself back into contention, but it is another world title opportunity for the London man as he takes on WBO ruler, Wardley. 

The bout will see two of boxing’s biggest punchers collide for the sport’s biggest prize and the feedback to the announcement last week has been resoundingly positive. 

Can Wardley maintain his impressive streak? Or is Dubois a step too far? 

Spurs for Fury

Tyson Fury is heading back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face Arslanbek Makhmudov in April. 

The fight will see Fury make his long-awaited comeback after being inactive since December 2024 when he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk for a second time. 

Fury’s last fight at the home of Spurs saw him outclass Derek Chisora in 2022 before stopping his great rival in the tenth session. 

Fury begins the fight over Makhmudov a huge favourite, but how will he look after 16 months outside the ring? 

Figueroa to land another huge opportunity

Brandon Figueroa is heading towards another major fight after stopping Nick Ball in Liverpool earlier this month. 

The American entered the contest a significant underdog, but he produced arguably the finest performance of his career to become WBA featherweight champion. 

Next up for Figueroa could be a huge spot on the Canelo Alvarez show in September that is set to see fighters of Mexican heritage take part in a number of huge fights. 

Turki Alalshikh was impressed with Figueroa and immediately announced that he wants the new champion to be part of the show.
