Tyson Fury has had several rivals during his illustrious career that has seen him reign as heavyweight champion on two occasions.
The British superstar, who returns against Arslanbek Makhmudov this weekend , has had trilogies with Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora, emerging from both series with a record of 5-0-1, with the only blemish being a controversial draw with the former back in 2018.
Fury has also faced Oleksandr Usyk twice, and although he has yet to share the ring with Anthony Joshua, the pair have been linked to a fight for the best part of a decade.
Going back to the early days of Fury’s career, for a lengthy spell, it appeared that David Price would be Fury's common enemy as each fighter turned pro within four months of each other after competing against each other in the amateur code.
Price defeated Fury on his way to an ABA title in 2006, and after following Fury into the professional game after winning a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics, it looked like he had a readymade rival he could compete with for the biggest prizes and purses.
Instead, Price, who began his career impressively with 13 stoppages from his first 15 fights, ran into trouble against Tony Thompson in two fights in 2013.
Fury would become lineal and unified champion two years later, and with Price playing catch-up, trying to land the best fights possible, he couldn't close the gap on his great amateur foe.
Reflecting on that feud, Price has admitted that Fury brought the best out of him, whilst also revealing whether Fury’s success has surprised him.
“It got me fired up. I thought, I’m going to have to put this fella in his place,” said Price when speaking to Sportscasting.com .
“I was relieved to beat him, to be honest. He’d won a medal at the World Juniors, which is a real achievement. I was nervous going in. But I didn’t foresee what he’d go on to be.”
The WBO world heavyweight title is on the line for Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois on May 9, only on DAZN PPV. Buy as a one-off PPV or included, along with Usyk vs Verhoeven (May 23), with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription.
