Deontay Wilder's trainer identifies weakness in Anthony Joshua

Joshua was in control for large portions of his contest with Jermaine Franklin last weekend, but his performance has not pleased everyone with some believing that the former world champion should've made a more emphatic statement. 

Joshua was having his first fight since last August and with Derrick James in his corner for the first time, the 2012 Olympic champion was under pressure to perform.  

Joshua is hoping to reclaim the heavyweight crown he lost to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021, but Scott, a former heavyweight contender who now trains Deontay Wilder, has pointed out a number of issues impacting Joshua. 

“He comes across as a little bit gun-shy,” said Scott when being interviewed regarding Joshua on Boxing King Media 

“Ever since he fought Ruiz, even when he has looked at his best, in my opinion against [Kubrat] Pulev and Ruiz II, those were still real tactical, safety-first victories for him. 

“Ever since that [loss to Ruiz], he has been overthinking in the ring, for someone that big, someone that strong, that can be that imposing on his opponent, that is not a good thing.”
