Diego Pacheco "hasn't even scratched the surface" of what he can do, with coach Buddy McGirt keen to unlock his potential.
The Hall-of-Fame trainer will be in the corner for the Mexican-American when he faces Immanuwel Aleem tonight in Carson.
Pacheco is seeking a successful homecoming at Dignity Health Sports Park, one that can springboard him to world title talk.
But McGirt feels his new client's skills can go beyond just that, and hopes that he can find a way to harness it for further glory.
"The kid has a lot of talent, and he hasn't even scratched the surface with his talent yet,"Â he told The Ring on Pacheco's form.
"He’s got so much potential. Once he finds it, believes in it and starts really showcasing it, he's going to be a terror.
“There's certain things that he needs. He was winning doing the same things, and sometimes guys get comfortable.
"You can't get comfortable, because when you get comfortable that's when you have problems. You can become one-dimensional.
"[But] he can box. He can get inside. He works the body well. He does it all. He just needs that foot on the gas with him.Â
"[He] can do it all. When you get a guy who has the talent, sometimes you got to know how to light the fire under their ass."
