Eddie Hearn unsure whether Tyson Fury has had the right preparation for Deontay Wilder fight

Tyson Fury isn’t at his best for his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder. That’s the verdict from Eddie Hearn who was the special guest on the latest episode of The DAZN Boxing Show. Fury meets Wilder on Saturday night but several delays in getting this contest on means that it’s the first fight for both men since their second meeting in February 2020.

Hearn, who had to endure Anthony Joshua’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk last month, will be a keen spectator this weekend. The head of Matchroom has a major interest in the heavyweight division with fighters like Joshua and Dillian Whyte vying for the top spot, but on the imminent clash, Hearn isn’t sure Fury is as prepared as previous fights.

“I don't think that he's unprepared, I just don't think he's in the kind of condition he was for the second fight,” said Hearn when speaking to Ak and Barak on The DAZN Boxing Show. “He had the first fight fall through with COVID and he's been flying backwards and forwards. I just don't think he's had the ideal preparation at all.

“Is he ready to beat Deontay Wilder? Probably, but the problem is when you fight Wilder as Luis Ortiz found out, you can just win every single round, and if you switch off for a nanosecond, the fight is over. So that that's the only reason this fight is intriguing.”

Watch Ak and Barak discuss whether boxing fans will see an undisputed world heavyweight champion anytime soon below.
