Promoter Frank Warren has named the "big favourite" for the upcoming heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.Â
After both Fury and Joshua got wins in their respective warm-up bouts at the end of July, it is full steam ahead for the long-awaited grudge match.Â
As Fury's promoter, Warren will be involved in one of the biggest fights in British boxing, and he is confident his man can finish Joshua within the scheduled distance.Â
Speaking to DAZN News after Saturday's epic between Pierce O'Leary and Mark Chamberlain, Warren was quick to back Fury and replicate a performance similar to Daniel Dubois' brutal beatdown of Joshua two years ago.Â
"I think Tyson is a big favourite; I’ve said that all along, styles make fights," Warren said. "I think Tyson will stop AJ; he will do what Daniel Dubois did."
Concerns surrounding Joshua's chin have become more prevalent after he was knocked down twice in the first round against unknown Albanian Kristian Prenga before eventually stopping him in the second.Â
Â
While much has been made of Joshua's decision to be trained by Oleksandr Usyk and his team, and the improved physical conditioning, Warren stated that this will not do much when it comes to being caught flush with heavyweight punches.Â
"What you can’t do in boxing is put muscles on your chin," the promoter claimed.
Fury's performance against Mariusz Wach the night before also failed to set the boxing world alight, with the former WBC heavyweight champion receiving criticism.
However, in Warren's eyes, Fury's win was a success as he continues to build his fitness after a 16-month retirement.Â
"Tyson did what he had to do; he just didn’t want to be rusty. He went and had a workout; he did it for charity."
An official announcement confirming Fury vs. Joshua is supposedly coming sooner rather than later despite there being uncertainty over the venue with Wembley Stadium and, most recently, New York's Madison Square Garden all in contention.
