Opetaia to face two-time cruiserweight champion on Garcia vs. Benn card

The blockbuster Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn fight just got its co-main event, and it's a big one in its own right.
Zuffa Boxing and Ring Magazine cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia will take on two-time and current WBC title holder Noel Mikaelian at the September 12 event in Las Vegas, which will be broadcast live on DAZN in the UK.
Opetaia (30-0, 23 KOs) looks to extend his unbeaten record after defeating Brandon Glanton by unanimous decision earlier this year, with the victory representing his eighth successful defence of the Ring title. The 31-year-old also became Zuffa's inaugural champion at 200 lbs with that win over Glanton, after holding the IBF belt on two occasions.
Meanwhile, Mikaelian (28-3, 12 KOs) re-claimed the WBC strap from Badou Jack in December after losing to the same opponent six months earlier. Mikaelian will be making his 2026 in-ring debut after fighting twice in 2025, but prior to his back-to-back bouts with Jack, the 35-year-old had only stepped into the ring three times since 2019.
