Tyson Fur y and Anthony Joshua appear to be close to agreeing a huge heavyweight showdown, but there will always be doubts until the first bell sounds.
Rivals for large portions of their careers, both have reigned as world champion, but an actual fight between the pair has not actually materialised.
In recent years, both fighters have endured tough nights in the ring and although both men have had to take a backseat to the brilliance of Oleksandr Usyk with the Ukrainian holding two victories over both men.
Last December, Joshua competed in his first bout in 15 months as he put behind him the shocking loss against Daniel Dubois by stopping Jake Paul.
Days later, the Watford man was involved in a tragic collision that killed two of his closest friends, but Joshua was able to escape with just minor injuries.
That incident initially led some to believe that his time in boxing could be up, but after he was sat ringside for Tyson Fury’s comeback earlier this month against Arslanbek Makhmudov, it now looks like a meeting between the fighters looks likely.
David Haye, once a major rival of Fury who was set to face him twice before withdrawing with injury, has urged the fighters to get the fight agreed.
“That’s the biggest fight they could both possibly have. They should be pushing it, they should be pressing it, they have to be. They both need each other, for their own legacies, different reasons,” said Haye when speaking to Sky Sports .
“They both need to say Anthony Joshua was in the same era as Tyson Fury, vice versa, and they battled it out to figure out who won. Maybe they will earn more money now than they would have done when it was first talked about.”
