Keys to Victory: Where will Josh Padley and Aqib Fiaz land the most damage?
Padley vs. Fiaz on DAZN subscription - Saturday

Ever since being stopped by Shakur Stevenson in February 2025, Josh Padley has been on a roll.

‘Paddy’ looks for his fourth straight victory when he clashes with Aqib Fiaz at Utilita Arena in Sheffield, England, and live on DAZN, on Saturday night.

Padley (18-1, 6 KOs) rebounded from the knockout loss to Stevenson by stopping Marko Cvetanovic and outpointing Reece Bellotti roughly six months apart to end his 2025 campaign.

Then, he delivered a second-round TKO of Jaouad Belmehdi this past January to reel in the European super featherweight title. He faces a determined Fiaz (14-1, 2 KOs) who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Alex Murphy in July.

Will Padley give the British crowd something to clamor about with another solid showing? Or will Fiaz crush his momentum with a stinging upset? DAZN News analyzes the Keys to Victory for both fighters.

Josh Padley’s Keys to Victory

Sit on hooks to the body

Josh Padley does his best work in cramped quarters with his shoulders to the chest of his opponent. When there, Padley must sit on hooks to the body. This crunching body work against Aqib Fiaz should allow Padley to continue pressuring forward and doing damage, while fighting at a grinding pace that naturally suits his style.

Fight off the back foot only when necessary

Padley is comfortable fighting off the back foot, but should only do so when necessary. He will better collect points in this matchup by leading the charge of aggression. That means only boxing on the back foot in spots when warranted. The rest of the time, Padley should be fighting forward.

Crank the volume up

If Padley wants a good showing in defending his European title, he must make it a conscious effort to crank up the volume. After all, it gives him his best chance to rough Fiaz up and have his hand raised in victory.

Aqib Fiaz’ Keys to Victory

Pick off Padley’s pressure with the jab

Aqib Fiaz possesses a crisp jab, which he’ll need to use to ward off pressure from Josh Padley. This can be achieved by establishing the jab early and doubling up on the stick, scoring points along the way.

Manage the distance

Fiaz must have awareness of his ring real estate at all times against Padley as he doesn’t want to find himself locked in the phone booth with his fellow Brit. Therefore, managing the distance behind the jab is crucial.

Also, splitting Padley’s guard with slicing one-two combinations should go long ways toward Fiaz keeping that healthy distance and dictating the pace of this scrap.

Let hands go

Just as Padley must have a high output, Fiaz will have moments in this fight where he is forced to let his hands go himself.

Doing this properly will keep Fiaz in contention or better yet the lead in an upset that could propel him to larger domestic fights.

Analysis: Who has the edge in Padley vs. Fiaz?

DAZN News’ Mark Lelinwalla

Padley and Fiaz got this main event spot after Dalton Smith suffered an injury and saw his first WBC super lightweight title defense plans derailed. Padley, the winner of three straight fights, has the tools to steadily mow Fiaz down as long as he doesn’t get out of sorts. I like him to win on points.
