Liam Paro is the new IBF welterweight champion after defeating Lewis Crocker on points in Queensland.
After 12 tough rounds, the local favourite was handed the verdict with scores of 115-113 x 3Â from the ringside judges.
Paro made an excellent start and the fast pace he set allowed him to build up an early lead as he outlander Crocker with by far the heavier volume.Â
Around the halfway mark, Crocker increased his activity as Paro slowed and he was able to start having success as he got closer to his opponent and landed some meaningful right hands.Â
With fight getting closer, Crocker chipped away at the lead Paro had built and there was some facial damage suffered by the local favourite as both his eyes began to swell.Â
With Crocjer’s corer believing he needed to do more, he was sent out for the last two rounds with the message to stop his opponent and he didn’t stop throwing punches as he looked to keep his belt with one last push.Â
Paro was cut badly with seconds remaining, but he was allowed to continue which meant he eventually heard the final bell after withstanding a massive onslaught.Â
Crocker will be devastated he didn’t start his attacks earlier in the fight, but the night belongs to Paro who may now have to face former Crocker rival, Paddy Donovan, in his first defence.Â
