Haney chases Paro unification after Davis pulls out of fight

WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney appears to have his sights set on a unification bout with IBF titleholder Liam Paro. 

Haney was scheduled to face his mandatory challenger Keyshawn Davis after Top Rank won the purse bid to stage the fight, only for Davis to withdraw despite him being set to earn over $2m. 

'The Dream' is wasting no time when it comes to finding a new opponent, and according to Fox Sports Australia, talks have begun between Haney and Paro's camps. 

Haney is no stranger to facing the best fighters Australia has to offer, in 2022, he produced back-to-back wins against George Kambosos Jr. for the undisputed lightweight title.

Benavidez lawsuit overshadowes Opetaia vs. Mikaelian

On Tuesday night it was revealed that Jai Opetaia will defend his Zuffa and Ring Magazine cruiserweight title against Noel Mikaelian on the undercard of Ryan Garcia's clash with Conor Benn next month. 

However, it appears Mikaelian could lose his status as WBC cruiserweight champion following a report from Boxing Scene which stated that Mikaelian had signed to face WBO and WBA cruiserweight title David Benavidez on December 12. 

Mikaelian promoter's Don King is hoping his fighter makes the right decision when it comes to who he faces next after claiming that he secured a $1m pay day for the 35-year-old. 

“Well, [Mikaelian] has a signed contract with me. I love Noel, and I hope he does the right thing," King said. 

"He [Mikaelian] wanted $1 million, and I got him $1 million.”

If Mikaelian does decide to avoid facing Benavidez, then there is likely to be a lawsuit due to the former previously signing a deal to face the dangerous American.
