Ryan Garcia will make the first defence of his WBC welterweight crown this weekend when he headlines in Las Vegas against Britain’s Conor Benn.
Garcia finally became world champion earlier this year, capturing the belt with a one-sided win over Mario Barrios .
Before that, his form had been inconsistent. After defeats to Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero, some within boxing questioned whether the popular Californian would fulfil his potential.
Having competed at a high level for several years, Garcia has shared the ring with a number of notable names, including Davis, Romero, Luke Campbell and Devin Haney.

Garcia dropped Haney three times when they met in 2024 and was awarded a points victory, but the result was later changed to a No Contest after he failed a drugs test.
After 28 professional fights and a career filled with highs and lows, Garcia has now named the opponent he rates as the hardest puncher he has faced.

“Oscar Duarte. He’s the only one that’s ever cut my eye, when he hit me with an uppercut in the clinch, and I was doing my Ryan roll,” Garcia said when speaking on Ring Champs.
“That dude could crack bro, he felt like he had rocks in his hands.”
Garcia faced Duarte in 2023 and produced an impressive performance, stopping him in the eighth round.
