Abdullah Mason has a mature head on his young body and he’s demonstrated that this last two weeks after dealing with a last minute opponent change as he gets ready for his huge Cleveland homecoming this weekend, live on DAZN.
Last year, Mason was involved in one of the best fights of 2025 when he outpointed Sam Noakes in a thrilling battle to land the WBO lightweight belt.
This Saturday, Mason intended to be defending his new title for the first time against Joe Cordina, but when the Welshman experienced visa issues when trying to enter America, Albert Bell was called up to step in.

Mason knows Bell very well and there is some talk within the boxing community that this is a tougher test for the 22-year-old.
Bell is unbeaten and was scheduled to be facing Andy Cruz later this month, but there was no way he could resist such a huge opportunity.
The late change may have impacted some fighters, but Mason has taken it in his stride and insists he is ready for whatever Bell brings.
“It was definitely unexpected. Albert Bell—that’s our guy from Toledo. But it’s boxing. You’ve got to be prepared for anything, and I’m prepared to come out on top. Everything happens for a reason,” said Mason when speaking at the fight’s final press conference.
“One thing I do want to say is, I’m the youngest world champion in boxing for a reason, and I’m prepared to show that when I step into the ring.”
“Boxing is offence, defence and IQ, and you’ve got to put it together and tailor it to the person you’re stepping in the ring with. So, with the opponent switch, I just have to tailor it to the person across the ring from me, and that’s Albert Bell."
