Frank Smith has is unsure whether the highly-anticipated 7 vs 7 event pitting Matchroom vs Queensberry will take place this year.
For the last few weeks, a show topped by Callum Smith against Joshua Buatsi, potentially for a world title at light-heavyweight, has been highly speculated as current champion, Dmitry Bivol, plans his next move.
Bivol has been ordered to defend his WBO crown against Smith, but as he recovers from injury, it’s uncertain when that fight can actually take place.
If Smith was to go ahead and face Buatsi for the vacant belt, it was rumoured that the fight would be the 7 vs 7 main event with several interesting battles mentioned for the event.
With Smith playing a big part at Matchroom, he has revealed that the event could move to next year as they wait for developments regarding Bivol meaning that fight fans may have to wait a little longer for the promotional showdown.
“Not yet. Discussions are now ongoing around Dmitry Bivol against Callum Smith. He's obviously the mandatory,” said Smith when speaking to Eze Talks Boxing for DAZN News .
“I think we're in a period now over the next week or so where we'll start to understand whether that's realistic and whether that's a fight that's going to happen next. But I think the 7 vs 7 is a fight or a show that can happen in the early part of 2027.”
