The Matchroom Title: Five fights Eddie Hearn could make with own belt

Jai Opetaia will bid to add another crown in the form of the new-look crown when he clashes with Brandon Glanton next month - but not everyone is impressed.

Matchroom Boxing supremo Eddie Hearn, who has had plenty to say about White, responded by jokingly suggesting a in-house belt could be introduced too.

But what would such bouts look like for the veteran promoter? Here, DAZN News suggests five fights Hearn could make with a Matchroom title on the line. 

Josh Kelly vs Conor Benn: Super-welterweight 

Josh Kelly has finally proved himself to be a world level fighter after recently defeating Bakhram Murtazaliev for IBF glory, but could he add the Matchroom title to his list of honours with a win over Conor Benn. 

Eddie Hearn has grand plans for both Kelly and Benn for the remainder of 2026, but of the day ever came where he did create his own titles for his thriving stable, this fight would be at the top of his priorities. 

Dmitry Bivol vs Callum Smith: Light-heavyweight 

Callum Smith has had to be patient to receive a second crack at a world title at 175lbs, but could a Matchroom belt open the doors for a big shot sooner? 

Hearn promotes both Smith and Dmitry Bivol, and with the latter on top of the pile at light-heavyweight, Smith would have a huge incentive to land victory against the pound-for-pound superstar.

Lewis Crocker vs Jack Catterall: Welterweight 

Lewis Crocker is the IBF welterweight champion, and he is set to make the first defence of his belt against Liam Paro next month. 

If the Belfast man was going for the Matchroom title, then one suitable opponent would be Jack Catterall. 

The Chorley man has long wanted to be a world ruler at either super-lightweight or welterweight, but would success with Hearn’s title after beating Crocker be enough to satisfy him? 

Shakur Stevenson vs Dalton Smith: Super-lightweight 

Two fighters who claimed world titles at super-lightweight in January are Shakur Stevenson and Dalton Smith, who both grabbed their opportunity with both hands against Teofimo Lopez and Subriel Matias respectively. 

A huge unification battle between the pair could easily take place in 2026, but if Hearn was to create his own belt, it would fit in nicely here. 

Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington: Super-featherweight 

Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington will collide for a second time on February 21 as two former world champions look to settle a bitter grudge. 

No world titles are on the line in this fight, but with both men highly respected and possessing top level credentials, Hearn may wish to give them another prize to fight for.
